Feedback Thanks to you two for such a brilliant weekend Helen, Derbyshire The tailor made clinics are a real bonus. In the UK accessing telemark tuition is very difficult. This is the only on snow coaching that is guaranteed to run, the winter weather in Scotland is too unreliable to make the journey from southern England worthwhile. The only other solution has been to and head off to mainland Europe (Alps or Scandinavia) or the States/Canada and join a group where class sizes tend to be large, impersonal and formulae lead. The other great advantage is that you can work on your skiing out of season. Coaching by Richard has been excellent; he is always seeking feedback from clients, which enables him to fine tune the exercises to individual needs to help them ski better. If he is typical of the newly qualified BASI telemark instructors, then we should see a rapid improvement in the competence of UK free heelers once fellow skiers become aware of what tuition is available. What would be good for the sport is for each UK indoor snow facility (many more needed around the country) to employ a qualified tele instructor. Another idea would be for gear manufacturers to have a demo weekend of the latest kit, skis and bindings, all our stuff has to be bought via mail order, try before you buy is something which has to be developed in England. Ruth Wilts Have always thought good free heal skiers look like they are having lots of fun and have wanted to join them. Fantastic opportunity to learn how to do it in the summer in the uk with an English instructor who is a real enthusiast. Now looking forward to cruising the mountains in style. I have been surprised how quickly I have progressed with one lesson- so far- and a few hrs practice on my own. Gratifying to have snowboarders asking about the equipment and saying how graceful the movements look. Mike, Northants Most other clinics tackled the foundations and more advanced techniques of telemark skiing with one notable exception Kim’s clinic on the use of the big stick. On his own admission, Kim hadn’t had much experience with the stick (with telemark anyways) but thought it might come handy in waving away unruly snowboarders. Despite initial misgivings from some quarters, the stick proved highly successful and remained one of the most memorable of the clinics as it helped enhance the simple beauty of the telemark turn. Deveden, Guildford Many thanks for the weekend - I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot! I've already spoken about getting my kids (6 and 5) Teledactyls and Tua Megas I want my girls to see May as a role model so hopefully will journey up with them on a sunday. Vern, Kent Had a great weekend. Fankz. Tim, Bucks |
