The Resort

The idyllic chalet village of Adelboden is easily accessible amid the impressive mountain landscape of the Bernese Oberland. The village lies on a sunny, south facing mountain terrace. It is a charming and friendly village with 3500 inhabitants.

Its altitude and reliable snow cover, together with its wide range of pistes, combine to make it one of the prime skiing regions in the Swiss Alps and a great place to develop your telemarking skills. Adelboden is a favorite among families and individual travellers alike with one of the most extensive skiing areas in Switzerland.

Adelboden is a good choice for anyone looking for an unspoiled Swiss village - Zermatt without the T-shirt and Swiss knife shops. The town has old wooden chalets lining the main street and a spectacular backdrop of 3000 metre high Alps, dominated locally by the Wildstrubel mountain. Famous resorts like Gstaad and Wengen are nearby.

The Skiing

The Adelboden-Lenk skiing region comprises a network of 170 km of pistes served by 56 lifts. The Geils area is the largest and one of the best for advanced telemarkers who'll find entertaining descents alongside the Laveygrat chair (time to show off).

Like the long Zermatt to Cervina trek, you can ski from Adelboden to a completely different town, Lenk, where you can access (by post bus) another ski area included in the price of the Adelboden ticket. In addition to the main Adelboden area, there are several other smaller areas that can be accessed via short post bus or car ride, so during the week we will have plenty of time to explore.

It's famous throughout Switzerland for its abundance of cosy Alpine restaurants, mountain hotels and snow bars.

Our accommodation in Adelboden, Hotel Alpina is situated in Boden a quiet, sunny location about a ten minute walk from the centre of town and the main lifts, although there is a piste adjacent to the hotel and the free ski bus stops nearby.
